Black River by S.M. Hulse
4.0

Poignant, bleak, heartbreaking, and human, this is one that will stay with me for a while.

Reading this in 2020, a time of tumult and reflection, again provided a different reading experience. It's looking like the books I read this year will have added layers of meaning. In Black River, the years and decades after life-altering incidents, and new tragedies, are the story. I'm amazed at how Hulse published this at 30 years old when it is full of so many characters with decades of experiences, pent up emotions, and contemplations of decisions and mistakes. Looking forward to reading her new release.
