Magic Bites - Fernando's
by Gordon Andrews, Ilona Andrews
"Magic Bites" is a funny paranormal mystery. (More emphasis on the mystery rather than the usual paranormal romance.) The main character, Kate, is funny and tough as they come. She is, thankfully, not a runaway Mary Sue, despite these qualities, and the world Andrews has written is interesting.
The downside: The book appears to be setting the stage for future adventures, so some questions are not answered here. Major characters that show promise (like Curran, the King of Beasts) are just starting out here. Last but not least, this book involves a lot of crime, and Andrews doesn't hesitate to describe, graphically, the impact of the crime. This is realistic but it was a bit much for me!
