Dark Awakening by Kendra Leigh Castle

5.0

Let me preface this review by saying that I am not one to usually review anything. I give it its stars and go on my merry way to my next fictional adventure...

This book however, I felt deserved a little better, as I feel this series has potential to be as well developed, albeit darker, as Kim Harrison's Hollows or Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld.

In Castle's Dark Awakening she builds a world within our world, as many have done before her, and I have no doubt will continue to do long after she is gone. The difference is that Castle's world came alive for me. I found her characters well built, the hierarchy was well defined, and the story moved along at a nice pace.

Without throwing out any spoilers (I hate spoilers, they are why I don't usually read or write a review!) my only complaint about this book was that the final conflict seemed to be a little to easily resolved considering the history of the characters.

However, unlike many authors, I find that Castle has developed her world and her characters to the point were a couple of choice bit characters from this book will easily be able to step into the roles as leads in the next book, and I look forward to greedily devouring every word of it!
