This book was intense, twisted and somehow tender in the best ways. Landon King, an antisocial, narcissistic artist keeps people around for one main reason: to manipulate them into doing his bidding. His obsession with Mia starts with wanting revenge, but unlike every other person in his life, she quickly becomes more than a pawn to him. She becomes his muse, someone he wants to understand, not for leverage, but because she cracks something in him that he never thought existed.
I love how Landon’s antisocial personality was captured throughout this book; the inflated ego, detached personality and viewing life as a chess game never waver, even as he tries to become someone deemed worthy of Mia. His character growth shows that it isn’t about changing who you are at your core, but showing who or what you’re willing to become for those you care about.
For Mia, the past has stolen her voice. Throughout the book the reader watches her fight for control, to heal, to reclaim her power with Landon by her side.
The book represents two contrasting types of demons, two people with challenges they need to overcome to truly be able to be with each other.
