A middle aged person finds themselves disinherited and sent out on a seemingly pointless make-work journey that ends up having huge geopolitical consequences. If you are wondering if you can read this book without first reading the Imperial Radch trilogy, I would say no. Knowing this universe is necessary. That said, it was great the way it revealed different parts of the universe while also being a lovely examination of identity, personhood, and consent.
