He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan

3.0

I enjoyed all the scenes between Zhu and Oungyang a lot. I think their connection and perspective of the world is super interesting. I also really enjoyed Boaxiang’s character. That being said, I feel like I spent most of the time being confused about the empress, the emperor, the great councilman, madam Zuang, Rice Bucket, Yuang and so forth were, which of them are just different names for the same person, in which city their resided, which side of the conflict they were on, and the relations between them. Maybe it’s just been too long since I read the first book. But it made me enjoy it substantially less. The last fifth of the book was really good though, with a satisfying conclusion to all story arcs.
