This book made me love being queer more than I already loved it. There is nothing quite like the joy of being fully yourself and being surrounded by a community of beautiful individuals who are also fully themselves. Just as You Are is a beautiful celebration of just that. It’s as much a love story to queer community as it is a romance.
Speaking of romance - I loved Liz and Daria! I did have to repeatedly remind myself that I was not reading about the Daria (90's kids, where you at?)... but that aside, I was obsessed. I loved the realness of Liz struggling with her identity & presentation, and her worries about figuring out what she’s supposed to do with her life and finding real love in between. I loved how, once you broke through her hard exterior, Daria was actually a thoughtful, deeply caring person who was just shy... I loved them together.
I loved it all.
