Well. This book is upsetting and something I didn’t fully know could happen at any point. It really made me reflect on the reality of that and what would likely happen to me in that scenario (probably not good things).

It was interesting that this story was more about the grim reality rather than an optimistic survival tale where the town comes together to beat the odds. Heartbreaking that so many people die slow painful deaths to starvation. And even when the feds arrive, it’s unlikely that anyone will be “saved.” Modern life is over.

Things that annoyed me: “we’re Americans, dammit” every few pages, college students breaking into random song, we get it he loved a cigarette, “you should talk with Elizabeth about sex,” BAM pregnant.

Lots of eye rolling moments but also a lot of sadness. Especially for Jennifer and her dogs :(
