That Night by Chevy Stevens

Another book where if I'd had anything else on hand to read I would have given up, which is a shame as I remember really enjoying Still Missing. The writing here is poor though. It's told in first person but very much at arm's length, it's almost like a shopping list of events: 'My sister was murdered, then we went to trial. I went to prison. I'm out now.' There was little description of events to actually pull you in and make you care. It's definitely all telling, it doesn't let you feel or intuit anything for yourself.

It also seemed fairly unbelievable as a crime and that they'd go to prison based on the evidence, but I could have let that slide had the writing been stronger. I had little to no sympathy for Toni (teen angst to such a degree always winds me up), and so wouldn't have cared if she'd never found out the truth.
