The One and Only Ivan
by Katherine Applegate
One of the best children's books I've read in a long long time.
It is so precious. It touches the heart and draws you in, in a way only a great book with amazing writing can. Applegate made you care so much about every single character on the page. Even Mack, the not-so-nice man in charge of the animals starts to get sympathy from the reader even though you really don't want to feel bad for him.
The reason the reader feels all these emotions is because Applegate writes through Ivan the gorilla's eyes. You experience pure joy and such heartbreaking sadness all the same of a few pages.
So good.
This book just begs to be read aloud.
