Vaughan is the kind of rock star I love - he loves with his whole heart. I wish I could for real hear him sing, because he is just about perfect in my head. Gillian is a tough cookie. It’s a good thing Vaughan is so utterly stubborn! She’s in a bit of a tough place, growing up with and working with her bastard of a father. But realizing what’s important in life opens a whole world of possibilities.
My only complaint of the story is the rather degrading/ holier than thou image the author seems to take of Christians. I do like that one of the characters himself debunks that (“I’m a virgin, not a saint”), but Vaughan continues to talk down to them and about them in an insulting manner. I don’t think this sub plot was necessary for a great story. What does it matter if these guys are former Christian Rock or any other non-metal genre? I found it a bit insulting that it was even a plot point.
I still rate the story a 4 though, but the STORY is worth it. The characters are well developed and the chemistry between the 2 could be felt from the very beginning. I get why Gillian was wishy-washy, but kinda hated it at the same time.
