biblio_phile 's review for:
Lady of the Drowned Empire
by Frankie Diane Mallis
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Here’s a breakdown—
The things I liked:
-the addition of Morgana’s POV. I love the complexity of this character and getting to see a different side of the storyline.
-the overarching plot line of the reincarnated guardians is cool, and I’m excited to see where it goes. Will fates be ruled by destiny or free will?
-I did have an Inking about the big reveal at the end, but it was still done well.
-the development of Rhyan and Lyr’s relationship.
The things I didn’t like:
-Unfortunately for me the first 60% of this book felt like filler, or at the very least could’ve been condensed to make room for more actual plot. I don’t think very much was gained by simply watching Rhyan and Lyr jump across the country, even if their interactions were enjoyable to read.
-I also feel like the great character development we had for Lyr in the first two books came to a standstill. Lyr felt very flat to me in Book 3, and maybe a bit annoying. I do understand she’s had a lot of traumatic events happen in a short amount of time and she’s grappling with that, so hopefully she can go back to being a BA heroine in Book 4.
-I feel like having Rhyan’s altercation with his father would’ve been a good addition on page. It seemed too easy for him to get what he needed and then bounce.
All in all, I am enjoying where the plot seems to be heading and will read the next installment when it comes out!
