Read after watching and loving Saltburn. I thought this book was very intense and loved the inner dialogue of Elio as he navigated his way through love/desire/obsession/ power. The writing was sexually driven and explores relationship to self and others alongside queerness. The novel focuses on the people rather than the set and surrounding - the set up and plot can sometimes feel a bit forced and unrealistic - but paired with the unreliable narrative it makes sense.

My only criticism is that Oliver at points felt less real and developed than Elio - but again this is from Elios POV and perhaps was done this way to drive how Elio wants to control and define Oliver.

Loved a first spicy read too.

The fathers speech to Elio after Oliver leaves is emotional and underrated!!

TW: there is a reference to r*pe in one scene nearer the end.
