alphabetseeds 's review for:
Black Water Sister
by Zen Cho
The book has a slow start but once Jess becomes fully involved in the spiritual family drama, I had a hard time putting it down. I enjoyed the flair of the spoken language, the strong cast of supporting characters, and Jess' tumultuous relationship with her dead grandmother and the titular god. The ending felt satisfying, like a scary new beginning, but Jess' growth through the novel is realistic and convincing. A fantastic modern world fantasy.
