Review of “The Power of Cute”

How I read: 🎧

⭐☆☆☆☆ (Rating System Below)

I really wanted to like The Power of Cute—especially since when I saw the narrator was Anthony Head, whose voice I absolutely love—but this book was a huge letdown. The concept sounded so interesting, diving into the idea of cuteness and its influence on our culture, but the execution just didn’t work for me. From the start, it felt like the author was bouncing around from one idea to the next without fully developing any of them, making it hard to follow or stay engaged.

The book came across more like a scattered college essay rather than something that had been thoughtfully put together. I was hoping for a deeper, more cohesive exploration of the theme, but instead, it was like a hasty soup with way too much salt—over-seasoned and thrown together. The potential for a good book was definitely there, but it got lost in the chaos of the writing and the jumbled approach to the subject matter.

Even with Anthony Head’s incredible narration, I couldn’t stick with it, and I ended up DNFing with about forty minutes left. It just wasn’t enough to hold my attention, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this book unless you’re looking for something to zone out to while you enjoy the sound of Head’s voice. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me.
