Yellow Bird: Oil, Murder, and a Woman's Search for Justice in Indian Country
by Sierra Crane Murdoch
I would give this book a 3.5. The pros: beautiful writing, really interesting information on tribal politics and history. I think the discussion about the shell companies, and the differing ways that the tribe and its member went about profiting from the oil boom was interesting. I appreciate books that open up places and events that I haven’t experienced or seen. Before this book I had a cursory understanding of drilling in Indian Country, I like that this really showed the impact on one place and individuals who lived there This book was a slow burn, I thought about not finishing it a couple of times. When I finally finished it I felt like I had finished a journey- which was fitting.
