Wow. I feel like I read it in a second. If I wasn’t human and didn’t need sleep I would have read it in one sitting. I genuinely feel like I know Celie, Nettie, Shug and Sofia; not as characters but as real life people. There’s so much violence and trauma in this novel, but it isn’t hopeless, it doesn’t only bring misery. It brings human capacity for change and understanding. It shows how others can inflict pain but they can also help you find your inner strength and your voice. This is a beautiful book and I can’t wait to read more from Alice Walker. A must read for everyone.
