Not a bad book at all, unusual read for me - very character driven. I didn’t find myself genuinely interested in picking up the book until about 200 pages in. Not sure if it is deserving of Waterstones book of the year.
That being said, the author Asako Yuzuki has clearly put a huge amount of time and research into this book, and it shows. The way she describes food is phenomenal. The way she explores misogyny and missandry in a modern day Japan is epic.
If you like a thinky social book you’ll love this. Personally, I don’t, but I did enjoy this one.
