This book is so stunning. It's quiet in how it quickly unfolds like a snowball down a hill. The way in which the story stumbles into historical worlds from its seemingly mundane plot of caring for a bird is so beautiful and masterful. I found myself immediately swept up in its response to history and the infinite space we have in the present to meditate on that history. The omnipresence of snow really contributes to the creation of a space where the exploration of history, trauma, and the self is clouded in the silence of the individual. A really magical book.
