ardennnn 's review for:
Flashlight
by Susan Choi
I am very grateful for Flashlight. This is a novel that taught me a history that I didn't know of and has made me want to read more books about Japan and Korea. I feel like I haven't learned something tangible while reading a fiction book in some time, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I also really enjoyed Choi's style of writing. It was written in a meandering and non-linear way which kept me really engaged throughout the novel. I loved the reflection of mother-daughter relationships through the telling of Anne and Louisa's many miscommunications.
I don't think this will be my favourite of the Booker Prize lonlisted books, though I do appreciate why it was selected.
