This is one of the better books I've read in 2017. This work is a cousin to works like David Ray Pollock's Knockemstiff and Jim Thompson's Cropper's Cabin. Whereas Pollock and Thompson know of what they write, it seems to me that David Joy conveys more intimately the pressures in the lives and self-images of the ones the USA has left behind.
