In Spear, Nicola Griffith asks a question I think we’ve let sit unasked for too long - what if Percival, knight of the Round Table was, in fact, a lesbian? And the answer seems to be “that would be great, thanks!”
Spear is short, but paces really well, and I enjoy both gender tomfoolery (I would not call this an explicit theme and if that is what you want this is not the read to give it to you) and the outright queerness of multiple characters. I do, however, think the prose style, while lovely, was a bit detached and I didn’t really get to know the characters or their internal worlds.
