I get why it makes sense, from a mass-marketing standpoint, to bill this story as a battle between humans and octopuses for world domination... But I gotta say, I suspect that I like what this book actually ended up being even more than I would've liked a book that better matched that description (though if that book ever does get written, I definitely still want to read it too).
Some really neat reflections on culture, meaning, and communication; technology, AI, and science; as well as the global ecosystem/the overall community of Life itself --- among other things. Probably my favorite book I've read so far this year.
