Assassin's Apprentice
by Robin Hobb
4 stars.
The beginning and end of this book were 5 stars. I loved growing up with Fitz. The descriptions of the world were so rich and Hobb's writing was stunning- she was able to make a first person narrative incredibly multifaceted/engaging. I was so emotionally invested in the characters; the ones I hated I REALLY hated and I was terribly upset when the ones I loved went though pain (which there is quite a lot of here). The final plot twists were also masterfully done and brought a lot of different threads together. I couldn't put the book down for the last 30%.
The main set back for me was that the middle of this book dragged a bit-- even for me who loves slow paced fantasy. I understand why that section of the book was necessary, but that doesn't mean I enjoyed the process haha. Either way, this was a great beginning to a fantasy series, and I cannot wait to read the next ones. I may or may not have already ordered them.
