NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I READ THIS BOOK ITS JUST A RACIST MAN COMPLAINING!

The way that the entire continent of Africa and its people are used as a device to underscore the psychological toll that colonization takes on the colonizer is sickening.

And yes, I am judging this book as a contemporary reader because it is not 1900.

Two stars because the prose gets the point across, that the process of colonization is taxing on the oppressor if they have any kind of conscience. However, it's whack that the white people were the only ones Conrad could empathize with enough to characterize.

This book makes me so angry. We need to stop recommending whiney white man books to each other.
