Xingyin grew up unaware that she was being hidden from the world as the daughter of the Moon Goddess, but when her magic flares it’s like a beacon alerting others to her presence and she must flee her mother and the only home she’s ever known. Xingyin ends up in the Celestial Kingdom being a companion to the prince of the Celestial Emperor’s son. Time and time she tries to figure out a way to get back home, but it’s not until her time in the army that she’s offered a chance. The assignment she’s given is full of peril, but Xingyin will do anything to be with her mother again.

As you all know I am not a fantasy-book reader, but this was recommended to me by @maddie_lloyd7 for my 24 to read in 2024 and I adored it. I’ve already started book 2. While filled with Chinese mythology, this would also be categorized as action/adventure, romantasy retelling and filled with magic. I highly recommend this one and can’t wait to see what happens next! What a great debut!

CW: death, death of a parent, blood/gore, war, kidnapping, torture, possession/mind control
