The Battle of the Labyrinth
by Rick Riordan
(I’m about to do too much <3)
BEST PERCY JACKSON BOOK COMING THROUGH MAKE WAY MAKE WAY
Oh you want a quest book? You want a whoo whoo time? You want monsters and action and puzzles and FUN??? Emotional crescendos of plots building since the first instalment? Well, everybody lock in, because I have the book for you.
It’s fast paced, it’s characters you know and love, it’s creative solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems, it’s HUGE displays of unbridled power from certain demigods who have a habit of underselling themselves to readers…. Rick Riordan and I will one day have a conversation about his use of the first person perspective, it will be life defining.
Speaking of our hero, I HAVE A SOAP BOX TO ASCEND:
Percy Jackson redefining what it means to be heroic by respecting the boundaries of the women who help him succeed on his quests will ALWAYS be famous to me !!!! That’s history! Put it in the curriculum! It’s been one of my most favourite things on this reread of the series. Percy has been raised to respect EVERYONE, and when he doesn’t, he gets called on it/ catches himself and course corrects.
The emotional beats and peaks of this book are INSANE. Truly rewired my brain as a young demigod wishing for adventure, and now I read it and feel 10 again, I LOVE THESE BOOKS !!!!!
Now, some random asides, for posterity:
1. Percy memorizing Rachel’s phone number??? WHOOOOORE
2. Annabeth being mean to Rachel is actually so cunt sorry I don’t make the rules I just enforce them
3. “Do you have 100 pens?” gets one liner of the millennium award that shit had me GASPING
