Mockingbird, Vol. 2: My Feminist Agenda by Chelsea Cain

3.0

Mockingbird, Vol. 2: My Feminist Agenda is the second of Mockingbird's title books and, unfortunately, her last. Bobbi's title has been canceled in the wake of the Civil War II, even though she was well-received and well-reviewed.

Although Mockingbird Vol. 2 has disappointingly very little to do with the Civil War II, I like Bobbi's character a lot and wish I could read more. Bobbi is witty and smart, and the story is weird in a good way.

The book takes place on a super-hero-themed cruise, and author Cain and penciler Niemczyk do a great job of infusing the whole book with a healthy dose of dork. There are a ton of nerdy splashes - suspects are shown as D&D villains, background characters are often dressed in cosplay, very cute graphics like footprint guides and flowcharts enhance Bobbi's detective-ness. I do wish Mockingbird herself had embraced the nerdiness a little more just for the fun factor - she spent most of the book accepting the nerds, but not becoming one of them.

I'm really sad to see this title go - it's a good one.
