The Julian Chapter by R.J. Palacio

Simple and short but adding so much depth an already great story, The Julian Chapter is a very welcome addition to the story of [b:Wonder|11387515|Wonder (Wonder, #1)|R.J. Palacio|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1545695751l/11387515._SY75_.jpg|16319487]

When reading Wonder it is easy to despise Julian. Sure he is a kid and we all make bad decisions when we're young, but Julian seemed to enjoy his meanness more than he should have.
In this short story we see a different side of Julian. One where we get more backstory to why he doesn't like Auggie. we see more off the influence his parents have on him which shape his character. And of course we see the aftermath of it all which we never got to see in the original book.

I think this little novella does a great job of humanizing Julian. He still won't be my favourite character, but it did a lot to make him more relatable. It is easy to read, written R. J. Palacio's wonderfully welcoming writing style. And after a reading slump, dipping my toes back into the world of Wonder was like receiving a warm hug.
