The King's Men by Nora Sakavic

5.0

10th time read!

Oh my god. That was an absolutely phenomenal book and an incredible ending to a wonderful series. I thought it couldn't get better than The Raven King but I was wrong. This book was just as good if not better.

Again the development of these characters was amazing. Kevin. Precious Kevin who was so scared and so hurt. Kevin who everyone (including the reader) wanted to see stand up to Riko and the Ravens more than anything. Kevin who finally made himself the most skilled and dangerous player, the queen. And if that wasn't good enough, him coming out for the second half like that. I mean I knew it was going to happen, but I still freaked out!

Andrew and Aaron. They still have such a long way to go, but even the fact that they got this far! Amazing. And just Andrew in general. I loved him off his meds and him in the last game! Yes. My precious baby Andrew was amazing.

Neil. How he came so far in just three books and one year, and how it was so believable and perfectly executed was just brilliant. Seeing him learn to trust and open up was great. He went through so much in this book alone and I couldn't be prouder of my boy. Also his last words to Riko, I actually cheered out loud. Loudly.

Now to talk about my loves, Andrew and Neil. Oh how far they came in just one book. "That doesn't mean I wouldn't blow you." That happened about a forth of the way into the book? From that point I knew I was done for. Their relationship was beautiful to watch. The way they respect each other and care so much about the other person being comfortable is just incredible and so wonderful to see in a 'non-relationship.' And Andrew, coming so far as to actually pick Neil instead of leaving him behind and willing to break his deal with Aaron for it. Wow how my little monster has grown. I can't wait for them to be happy together playing exy forever.

I'm happy with how things played out with Riko. Sure, I'm a bit unsatisfied, but I also don't really know what would've satisfied me. And honestly it made sense.

The Foxes are a dysfunctional, disastrous, wonderful, loving bunch of people and I'm so sad that their journey has come to an end. This series already means so much to me and I hate to see it end, but the Foxes will always hold a place in my heart and I'll just imagine they're out there living out their dreams and kicking ass!
