The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake
4.0

Favorite character: Gideon / Parisa / Nico

Three words: complex / intriguing / slow

Favorite quote: You are forever haunted by the moment you saw death all around you, and you chose to stay alive.

After Libby's disappearance, the remaining five magicians start their research year, but not without missing their lost companion. While some of them try to locate her and bring her back, others dig deeper inside the Society's archives, working on new theories.
The rivals Atlas and Dalton are determined to pursue their goals and while Atlas works on his plan, Dalton forms a new group, trying to bring the Society and their magicians down.
Libby is lost in another decade and while dream walker Gideon tries to reach her, she has to face difficult choices. Is it worth traveling back to her own time, when the stakes are high and immoral?

I loved and was fascinated by the characters in the first book and for me they were the main reason why I was so drawn into the story, they are just exceptional! I couldn't wait to find out how the rivalries and allies between them progressed, and I was not disappointed!
The Atlas Paradox takes place during the research year of Nico, Parisa, Reina, Tristan and Callum, and with Libby is missing and Callum alive, despite the others chosen him to be killed, the tensions are high. Everyone misses the anxious Libby in their own way and has to get used to the empty space she left behind. The dynamic between the characters is dysfunctional, mistrusting and complex and you get a deeper insight of their motivations and worldviews. New and surprising alliance are formed and not everyone has the same end goal. I just loved trying to figure everyone out!
As in the first book, the story is slow paced and you witness a lot of the characters reasearches and their moral choices. It's definitely a complex magic system and not always easy to read, but I can't wait for the next book!
Spoiler: I'm so interested in what everyone is up to outside of the Society and how long it will take for them to go return! And of course, I can't wait for more Gideon and Nico!
