Effortless With You by Lizzy Charles

4.0

Interesting read. It took me a bit to warm up to Lucy, but I think that's b/c she was more real teenager and less literary teenager (ie she had issues with her parents and still behaved unreasonably to my adult mind). But she grew up in the story, and it was believable and I rooted for her the whole way. It was really more of a coming of age book, with only a side note of romance. Not sure what I was expecting, but I guess it was different from whatever was going through my head. Touched on some really diverse topics, from bullying to post-partum depression. And fairly well done with all of that. My heart ached for Lucy and the way she saw herself in the world and the conclusions (sometimes false) that she came to from the way she was treated by others. All in all, I came out having cried a bit, having rooted for the heroine, and having a smiley fest for the ending.
