Codename Villanelle
by Luke Jennings
Enjoyed it! Started watching Killing Eve, but realized it was based off a book so I paused the show until I could finish the book.
Even this book I think started as a collection of novellas and there are some points where expansion would have been warranted. And some of the situations stretch plausibility, at least in the world that I live in. Of course, I'm not a spy, an assassin, or tasked with catching either.
There was a moment where Villanelle, whose native language is Russian (I think?), sits down for a meeting with an associate. He says something to her in Russian then provides the translation. Why would a native speaker need the translation? That took me out. The reader needs the translation so you work it around to Eve. Or someone that doesn't speak Russian fluently.
The low bar has been cleared and I can now watch the show in peace.
