Compelling Characters, terrifying magic, and some gruesome descriptions of murder. It went by so fast, but the plot was finished without feeling rushed, while still leaving room for the next books in the series. There is a nine year age gap between the leading characters, (28 and 37) and the sex is kind of kinky.
