A Fate of Wrath & Flame
by K.A. Tucker
Honestly, I found this book quite a slog. However, when I put it down I couldn't stop thinking about the world and characters - so there was definitely good world building at the end.
I found the initial concept pretty confusing - Romeria starts in New York, then suddenly gets thrust into this new medieval fantasy world. This plot device to get her to be a newbie to the world just felt really really odd, quite a jerky step.
The good news is, that meant I had no idea where it was going! At times, I found that there was way too much info dumping and I got lost.
Character wise, I didn't especially like Romy. This book was marketed with her as a thief, but you never saw any of that skill or sneakiness. The romance with Zander was a bit lacking too. I think they're end game, but I'm not really feeling the heat. I'm rooting for her and Atticus... (first love is too boring).
