Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else's muse.
I am not a muse.
I am the somebody.
End of fucking story.” — Taylor Jenkins Reid

what a fun, wild ride! this is not typically the type of book i would pick up, but between the hype and loving another of reid’s works really drew me to it. i love the interview style that reid usually takes and this book felt very uniquely formatted since it had to cover so many points of view. i also just really love reid’s writing style and the way she is able to capture so many distinct voices within her writing. the 70s isn’t really a period i’m super familiar with so it was really interesting to immerse myself in this world of sex, drugs and rock and roll that was the music scene of the 70s. daisy jones it such a compelling character to follow, i really enjoyed watching her journey unfold.

since this book is most definitely based on the drama of fleetwood mac, i do feel that the book left something to be desired in the way of the drama between the two leads. i’m usually always the person who will says that the book is better than the adaptation, however i do think the prime series added more of that drama and intrigue i felt the book was lacking. i think my main criticism of the book is that it ended just leaving me wanting more. naturally, it made sense for the book to end with the band breaking up, i never expected them to last, but i just expected a bit more between billy and daisy that some sexual tension and one moment where their lips brushed.

overall i would still recommend this book to people for a fun read and it led me to some really awesome music from the prime video series soundtrack.
