merleita 's review for:
Silver Spoon, Vol. 8
by Hiromu Arakawa
This was a heartbreaking look at what happens when reality gets in the way of dreams and when farming doesn't work out. Komaba's family can't keep up with their debt and the farm ends up going bankrupt, forcing them to sell their beloved cows and forcing Komaba to drop out of school. As the guarantors of the Komaba Ranch's loan, Mikage's family is also affected and her dream is threatened too. This volume has some great character development for Mikage, Hachiken, and Komaba. It's also a reminder that just because there aren't any chimeras around doesn't mean Arakawa can't bring tears to your eyes...
