Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song
by Sara Bareilles
Sara chooses to present her life (so far) in eight essays, introducing each chapter with handwritten song lyrics. She sprinkles personal photos throughout the story, which I love more than having a dedicated "photo section" in the middle. She doesn't hide the truth about her personal struggles but addresses them without oversharing (such as explaining she was depressed at the end of a significant relationship, but doesn't detail anything else about the relationship -- keeping truly personal things personal).
I finished the book feeling like I had met Sara at a party -- that I now knew more about her than I ever had before, but that there is still more to learn in the future.
