The Book of Yokai: Mysterious Creatures of Japanese Folklore
by Michael Dylan Foster
This book might be interesting to the right person but it wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. Admittedly that is my fault for not researching it before buying.
I was hoping for full yokai folk stories and explanations of the different yokai origins and whilst this book did have this to a degree the stories were not fully explored and the creatures were explained in a very mundane way. I felt like I was reading an academic paper which wasn’t what I was looking for from the book at all.
I did enjoy some of the explanations in the codex towards the end of the book and again for the right reader I’m sure this is a goldmine. It just wasn’t for me personally.
