A beautifully written book from the perspective of a 90 yr old Bo declining towards death.

This book hit me hard. I've lost a mum to dementia, and we've just taken on my dad in law's dog as he's too frail too look after her. The pain he feels when his dog is taken away - oh my god. The author writes about the dog filling the gap when his wife goes into care - it took my breath away. It really turns all the good you think you're doing on its head. I had to put the book down at that point and walk away. Excruciating.

This is a book that will make you think differently about aging, about relationships and making up with family, it's just so powerful, beautiful, still and real. To be inside Bo's head - to hear all the words not said. As an outsider, seeing the pattens repeat from his own dad..and yet be different.  It's wonderful writing. The descriptions evoked so many emotions, so much is left to interpretation and emotion. Very skilled writing. It's rare..this sort of prose..to be living in the bones of someone. It's breathtaking.

I'd definitely recommend this book  wholeheartedly.  But be prepared....you'll need tissues
