King Rat by James Clavell
5.0

I went into this one with lower expectations, a different setting to this one than the previous books in the seeis and I have to say I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It felt very real and more real than the previous three books. I expected this to be the weakest one so far but it was superb. Felt very real and gritty and given it is loosely based on the authors own experiences, one can expect that.

The characters were excellent, especially Marlowe and throughout Grey was a thorn in everyone's side including his superiors. King was the kingpin only whilst capture lasted and once liberated he was soon brought back to earth. It was an interesting climax to see how things played out. I am very curious to read the rest of the series and see if any of these characters or their offspring pop up in Noble House.

All in all a superb read and I'm glad I read it, it is not Shogun or Taipan but it is great in its own right.

It feels like only yesterday I read Shogun and soon I will be starting Noble House and be 5/6 of the way through the Asian Saga. Its flown by, especially this one.
