Pretend You're Mine
by Sloane Kennedy
A very 'meh' read that tells me that Sloane Kennedy's novellas are perhaps not for me. They all have some degree of insta-love (while I, personally, prefer slow burns), and the tragic backstories don't always work when you don't have the time to let them... settle and feel real. Also, a protagonist thinking that his crush not liking him back feels worse that the thing that ended his career... am I the only one who sees the problem in that? It makes the 3 stars seem generous. But because I didn't particularly dislike the novella, I can't go lower.
Finally, I wish the book didn't rely on immediate intensity between the MCs so much, and that I'd been able to connect to them more.
