This is a difficult book to review. As a true self-help book in the modern age, it's not great. As a novel glimpse into history, fascinating. The one valuable piece I do take away for application is the annual self-assessment, which instructs you to sit down with trusted peers and answer tough questions to take stock of how well you are living your life. The rest is a lot of metaphysical "woo." Some of the concepts the author refers to can be best carried off with real modern science in the book _Grit_ by Angela Duckworth.
