klavoie89 's review for:
Book of the Month
by Jennifer Probst
An easy and enjoyable read (maybe with a glass of wine or margarita).
What I liked
- How the story builds, showing readers different sides of Brick, Aspen, and their relationship.
- The writing generally. I felt like I could picture being back on the Carolina coast with the descriptions and activities.
What I didn’t like as much
- The beginning was rough for me - I didn’t find Aspen’s behavior and how she tried to seduce Brick appropriate (e.g., if a guy came to my place of work like that, I would be really uncomfortable).
- The support group. While I appreciated Aspen talking to them, all the references up to that point made me cringe a little.
- Without giving away any spoilers, the third act miscommunication really upset me. Aspen playing with Brick’s emotions felt cruel.
Thank you to NetGalley, Jennifer Probst, and Blue Box Press for providing me with an advanced reader copy.
