While reading this book, I kept asking myself whether Doris Lessing was commenting on ableism and eugenics or wandering her narrative way into ableism and eugenics. Having now looked at some interviews, it seems to be the latter. There were parts where I thought she might be doing something interesting, but overall, nah. I did like the mother in law though.
