cfaheyarts 's review for:
Fevre Dream
by George R.R. Martin
I loved it. I've been a fan of Martin's work for a long time already, primarily in the fantasy genre, but when I heard he'd dabbled in vampiric horror I had to give it a read.
Vampires as a subject have always been a sort of comfort-food for me, yet it's been a while since I've found a good story that really grabbed hold of my imagination again. Fevre Dream is the first vampire book I've read in the last five years that has.
The rivers and swamps of the south, among crooked cypress, hanging moss, and histories as full of life and color as they are pain and blood, are perfect settings for good horror. Martin's rendering of the world on and along the banks of the lower Mississippi has made brilliant use of it.
If you're in the mood for a tale of good bloody gothic horror, I highly recommend spending a weekend on this one.
