Ring for Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse

3.0

I really don't get it.

In 1915 Wodehouse publishes Something Fresh which is hilarious.
In 1925 Wodehouse publishes Carry On Jeeves which is seriously bland.
In 1953 Wodehouse publishes Ring for Jeeves which not only is bland but also has Wooster distinctly absent, whose dynamic with Jeeves was so perfect.

Why has the only good Wodehouse novel I've read been the one without the character he's most famous for? Did Wodehouse get worse over time due to selling out? Is there some sweet-spot of middle-Jeeves between Carry On and Ring in which Wodehouse hasn't sold out but has also matured the character of Jeeves?

PS, I listeneed to this while suffering a cold. Wodehouse is very soothing for this sort of situation.
