This was a pretty good listen. There were parts during the first third or so where I was actually laughing out loud, and I don't do that very much. Mostly it's just inward laughter or maybe a small noise of some sort to indicate my own amusement to myself. She was cracking me up, though (definitely do the audio if you're going to do it at all; the swamp tour story alone is worth it).
But then a single chapter had to go and ruin it for me.
Most of the book is delightful. Tiffany clearly wrote the book herself; it's very rough in style, extremely conversational, in that it's written exactly as she talks (which is another reason I say do the audio, because it sounds like her telling you something rather than her reading you something). I admire that she was able to write about such tough subjects (she's had a rough life) with such candor and good humor, and she doesn't hide her own questionable actions, either. The book is refreshingly free of shame.
It's just, that one chapter. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, and the book didn't really recover afterwards, despite there being some really entertaining stories after it (it takes place halfway through the book). I just kept remembering about Roscoe.
So this chapter I'm talking about is when she has sex with her coworker, who is disabled in some way never explained, and the tone was trying to walk this very fine line of treating him with respect, but also the point seemed to be just "One time I had sex with this guy who was disabled!" And that's not enough of a story. I think she maybe could have made it work with more editing and boiling down on just exactly what the point of it all was, and being more introspective on what was going on during his side of the story. It just left a bad taste in my mouth, even though I could see the point wasn't to be disrespectful. I'm not sure how she could have made it work . . . Also, she imitates him in the audio, and I'm sure that's what he sounds like to her and she's just being a performer, but that also didn't sit super well for me.
Anyway, worth reading, maybe just skip that chapter!
