I liked this a lot. I enjoyed the fairy tale and folklore elements, and I like that the magic was sometimes vague and unexplained. It took a very unexpected turn halfway through, and I was honestly expecting a different type of book and story from the one it ended up being. At first it was hard to adjust to the change in setting and how big the plot became, but I ultimately found it interesting and tense. I wish Agnieszka and Sarkan had spent more time together through the story, and that Sarkan was less rude and antagonistic. It didn’t feel like he had changed enough by the end to warrant a relationship with Agnieszka, and their romance didn’t feel super believable or earned. Since the romance wasn’t a big part of the story, however, it didn’t detract much from the larger story. Still an overall enjoyable read.
