Such a Fun Age by Kiley Read is a book that I’ve literally seen everywhere.
This book touches a lot of complex issues. The characters and their interactions are also layered and complex.
It highlights different forms of racism and how performative actions and activism can be detrimental. It brings up lots of discussion and reflection such as white feminism versus intersectional feminism, White savior complex, privacy, consent and unconscious bias.
All of these themes and the constant micro aggressions throughout the book SHOULD make you uncomfortable and make you reflect, although it is at times, disturbing to read.
Despite the heavy topics, it is a very easy book to read and very enjoyable.
Definitely recommend this book.
Graphic: Racial slurs and Racism
